Australian 3D printing specialist Amaero International Limited (ASX:3DA) has appointed former Acting USA Secretary of Defence, Patrick Shanahan, as Defence Advisor to the company’s established Industry Advisory Board.
Amaero is a leader in the development metal additive manufacturing for the defence, aerospace and tooling sectors, and Mr Shanahan is recognised globally for his expertise within the aerospace and defence sectors.
Prior to his government career Mr Shanahan served The Boeing Company as Senior Vice President, Supply Chain & Operations responsible for oversight of the company’s manufacturing operations and supplier management functions, including implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies and global supply chain strategies.
Previously, as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Airplane Programmes, Mr Shanahan was responsible for the profitability, design, assembly and delivery of the 737,747,767,777 and 787 airplanes. He has held leadership positions in Boeing’s defence division with responsibilities for development and deployment of missile defence systems and rotorcraft programmes.

Amaero was established with the support of Monash University in 2013 to take advantage of commercial opportunities identified by the Monash Centre for Additive Manufacturing (MCAM).
It is co-located with MCAM in Melbourne Australia. It operates two additional facilities, in Adelaide, South Australia, and El Segundo, California.
Amaero manufactures large format complex components in metal with laser-based additive manufacturing processes, commonly known as 3D printing.
The company has worked with many of the world’s leading manufacturers of aerospace and defence products in both an R&D and manufacturing capability and has a demonstrated ability to deliver aviation and military specification 3D printed alloy critical operation components.
