Locally listed telco disruptor, Aussie Broadband (ASX:ABB) will open a new call centre and business office in central Perth.

In what will essentially be a second hub for the company, it is expected to bring 160 new jobs to the area, including customer support roles, management, HR and warehouse positions.

Managing Director Phillip Britt said the company was ramping up to start operations in July.

“We’re very excited to be opening an office in Perth, where we’ve always had strong support from customers. Perth has a wealth of tech talent and we’ve got a number of positions that we’re looking to fill. For Aussie, this is a great culture fit because Perth people are laid back, friendly and enjoy a good belly laugh.”

A Perth location allows the company greater flexibility to provide customer service across Australia’s varying time zones, whilst still keeping jobs in the country.

The new centre will include a warehouse facility to dispatch locally, allowing Western Australia customers to receive hardware such as VoIP adapters, modems, and routers much more quickly.

Perth will become the company’s third call centre, joining two others in Melbourne. It is a symbol of the speed of growth the company is experiencing.

“It’s hard to believe that just over 18 months ago we opened an office in Lynbrook, in the outer South East of Melbourne. Since then, we’ve more than doubled our team – we now employ over 540 staff. We’re looking forward to growing our team even further in Perth and expanding the Aussie Broadband family.”

The office in Perth coincides with Aussie Broadband rolling out its own privately-owned dark fibre network in WA, including in Perth’s CBD.

So far, around 8 kms of 360-core network fibre cable has been installed by our delivery partners Dean Constructions and Lightsource Services, which will link Perth CBD at NextDC P2 to NextDC P1 in Malaga,” Phil said.

The fibre network can offer speeds of up to 10Gbps for business customers, and speeds in excess of 100Gbps for specialist applications.

The company’s main focus is nbn™ (NBN) subscription plans and bundles to residential homes, small businesses, not-for-profits, corporate/enterprise and managed service providers.

As a licensed carrier, the company provides these services through a wholesale agreement with NBN Co, a mix of leased backhaul infrastructure from third parties and its own network equipment.

The company also offers a range of other telecommunications services including VOIP, mobile plans, entertainment bundles through its partnership with Fetch TV and connections through the Opticomm network

In WA, Aussie Broadband already has a strong and loyal customer base, with over 44,000 residential customers and over 2,700 business customers.

This latest news comes after the company announced earlier in the week it had signed its first customer for a new white label solution for major retail brands that allows them to sell Aussie’s internet and VoIP services under their own brand, and that had it increased national residential and business broadband connections by another 30,000 during the March quarter.
