The Curtin University has secured a prominent executive from Silicon Valley’s booming tech scene, appointing Dr Paul Herz, the head of manufacturing operations for Facebook’s consumer hardware division, as Adjunct Professor for the Faculty of Business and Law.
Dr Herz has twenty years’ experience developing some of the world’s biggest technology products.
“It is an honour to join Curtin as an Adjunct Professor and I’m looking forward to working with the University to expand its already strong curriculum,” Dr Herz said.
As part of the appointment he will be helping boost the university’s business and entrepreneurial-focussed courses, as well as joining Curtin’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Education advisory panel.
Dr Herz will provide guest lectures in entrepreneurship and engineering, deliver workshops on manufacturing and logistics, mentor students, and provide strategic advice to the University on industry engagement and commercialisation.
Commenting on the appointment, Curtin University Faculty of Business and Law Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel de Bussy said: “Dr Herz will offer rare insights into the world of a global tech entrepreneur, providing inspiration to the next generation of Western Australian business leaders.
Our MBA and Executive Education programs will benefit from the insights he can provide on innovation and entrepreneurship,” he said.
Dr Herz completed his undergraduate degree in engineering physics from the University of California, Berkeley and received his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in electrical engineering and computer science.
Curtin University is Western Australia’s largest university, with more than 56,000 students and is ranked in the top one per cent of universities worldwide.
