Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), an innovator at the front line of business with solutions and partners that deliver a performance edge, has announced Mt Buller Ski Resort’s deployment of Zebra’s XSLATE B10 rugged tablets to improve the efficiency and accuracy of its ticketing validation process.
Mt Buller is one of Australia’s most popular and accessible ski resorts, with more than 80 kilometers of runs spread over 300 hectares of terrain. It is visited by more than 400,000 guests annually, which warrants the need for a robust system to validate the passes of each visiting guest.
Buller Ski Lifts (BSL) owns and operates the extensive network of ski lifts serving the resort, and uses RFID passes – “B-TAGs” to facilitate lift access. The size and spread of the network of lifts over a 300-hectare mountain area poses challenges for validating every guests’ pass for each ride and there are multiple access points across the ski area.
“We needed a rugged tablet to enhance our existing RFID-enabled entry process,” said Jonathan Cotterill, IT Manager at Buller Ski Lifts. As our guests enter the gate, the B-TAGs in their pockets are detected and the identities of the passholders show up on the tablet in real time for staff verification purposes. As the ticket gates are outdoors, our solution must withstand the extreme alpine conditions on Mt Buller including rain, snow, hail, and intense UV exposure. We’re delighted that Zebra’s XSLATE B10 rugged tablets have met all these stringent requirements and have significantly reduced the time spent on our administrative work.”
“We’re very excited that a leading ski resort like Mt Buller is enhancing its business operations by using the right technology,” said Tom Christodoulou, Regional Director of Australia and New Zealand, Zebra Technologies. “In fact, Buller Ski Lifts already has plans to increase its number of ski lifts, and we look forward to supporting the ski resort with Zebra’s solutions in the days ahead.”
