Leading bio-materials company Nanollose Limited (ASX: NC6) has been granted its patent application titled “Plant Growth Media and Method for Making Same” by the European Patent Office.
The successful application marks the company’s first granted patent in Europe. This patent family has also been granted in China and Japan and remains pending in other jurisdictions.
The patent covers Nanollose’s original wet-gel formulation of its Jelli Grow seed raising medium. While the company’s primary focus is currently on its new dry powder Biollose formulations for Jelli Grow and MicroGel, the European patent provides important protection from potential competitors in a large market.
The company believes it also augurs well for the prospects of Nanollose’s recent patent application covering its Biollose technologies.
In addition to its expanding patent portfolio in the horticultural space, Nanollose continues to expand its portfolio of intellectual property for fibre technologies. The company’s patent family relating to its viscose technology, which was granted in the USA earlier this year, has recently been granted in both Australia and India, and continues through the examination process in other jurisdictions.
The company’s joint patent application with Grasim Industries, titled ‘A High Tenacity Regenerated Cellulosic Fibre’ is also progressing through the international patent system. It recently entered the National Phase in accordance with the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) Patent Cooperation Treaty and has subsequently been filed in several key markets and jurisdictions.
We are pleased to confirm another patent granted for Nanollose’s suite of technologies in a major market. As well as expanding our international IP portfolio, formal approval from the European Patent Office provides further validation of the company’s innovative technologies,” Executive Chairman, Dr Wayne Best, said.
“Moreover, it provides protection from potential competitors to our range of Biollose products in a major market. Along with our recent production milestones and the signed MOU for entry into a supply agreement for MicroGel with Australian technology company Greenspace, this key patent approval adds to the group’s broader momentum as part of our stated R&D and commercialisation strategy.”
