Leading nanotechnology group Nanoveu (ASX: NVU) has received a major tick of approval for its anti-viral phone protection technology, with successful testing completed by the National University of Singapore’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
The phone case and screen protectors appear similar to other translucent smartphone covers, but a layer of extremely small copper ions assist in killing viruses.
According to the National University of Singapore, Nanoveu’s technology demonstrated to be effective against a coronavirus strain emerging from mice.
The research institute placed a solution containing coronavirus MVH-A59 on the phone cover and in only 10 minutes 90% of the virus was eradicated.
Commenting on the independent testing, Nanoveu Executive Chairman and CEO Alfred Chong said:
“The Nanoveu technology is poised to revolutionise safety for all mobile phone users and the results from the National University of Singapore further validates our inherent value proposition as a timely product in today’s evolving world impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“We are thrilled to be able to demonstrate, via a highly reputable research institute, that Nanoveu’s phone protection technology can reduce active coronavirus particles by a factor of 10 in just 10 minutes.
The Company deems the testing of MVH-A59 as significant for potential effectiveness against other viruses.
MVH-A59 is a beta-form coronavirus, which is the same form as other harmful pathogens such as COVID-19, SARS and MERS.
Nanovue has signalled that it is expecting further testing results, with work being conducted in the US on coronavirus OC43, which is a betacoronavirus shown to infect human hosts and is a known cause of the common cold.
