Resumise, a new marketplace start-up, allows college students to buy and sell resumes – has recently raised $50,000 in seed capital, to continue their expansion across the Australian University network and create a new benchmark system for job applications at major Australian firms.
Australian college students find it difficult to obtain a job after they graduate. 100,000 students took part in the latest ‘Graduate Careers Australia Job Survey,’ and less than 69% had a full-time job within 4 months after graduating.
Traditionally, the resume market is made up of resume writing services that charge a fee for a professional to write a resume – or resume software as a service models that improve the look and feel of a resume.
Resumise is similar to Envato’s Themeforest, but for resumes and is unlike any other players in the resume space. Resumise is the first resume portal in Australia that enables college students who have been hired successfully at major firms to sell their cover letters, and resumes, back to their peers.
Through Resumise, graduates in their final year of study can purchase resumes, as well as cover letters – and apply ‘what’ has already worked for others’ to their CV. This increases the likelihood of obtaining a graduate position.
Resumise’s co-founders, Joseph Shin and Leo Wang say a major part of the problem comes down to students not knowing how to market themselves on paper properly.
Resumise is planning to expand their platform and introduce a new benchmark system that allows University students to see how they compare against other students by utilising artificial intelligence.
“We’ve focussed on the customer experience – both student and grad – as well as really trying to demystify the whole summer intern and graduate recruiting process”, Shin says.
“We’ve both been through it and it can be incredibly stressful, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. That’s where we’re trying to help.”
