They will now travel to the Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) semi-finals at CES in Las Vegas in January 2017. There they will have the opportunity to present the company to XTC judges Jeff Clavier (SoftTech VC), Tim Draper (DFJ), Christine Herron (Intel Capital), Veronica Serra (Pacific Investments), Jonathan Teo (Binary Capital), and the CEO of the organization running CES, Gary Shapiro.

Commenting on SafetyCulture being awarded the 2106 OzApp Award award, OzApp co-founder and global Venture Capitalist, Bill Tai said, “the quality of the start-ups shortlisted for this year’s award were phenomenal and the pitches of the top five teams were world class.”
Australasia has produced world class, category dominating technology companies such as Atlassian, and up and comers like Canva that have come from the WA OzAPP ecosystem.
“Seeing this happen first hand tells me this is just a start and we will see more like this from this region. The tech start up community that has crystallized around WestTech Fest and OzApp Awards, will only enhance this prospect.”
Other finalists who pitched on the night who received a USD$5,000 Amazon Web Service credit, included, Formalytics, LawAdvisor, Reword, shippit.
Reword also received a AUD$20,000 credit for design services from Lateral, while shippit received AUD$5,000 from OneVentures.
Powered by Curtin University, The OzAPP Awards aims to foster dialogue and collaboration between innovators, researchers, investors and industry, and to further stimulate innovative business culture in WA and throughout Australasia.
The OzAPP Awards is part of The West Tech Fest a week long annual event for the West Australian start-up and tech community – attracting tech leaders and investors from the US, Europe, Asia and from around Australia.
Previous winners of the OzApp Awards have included swift (2015) now operating on 15 countries globally, Kindy, (2014) & Ollo Mobile (2013). One of the standout previous nominees is WA success story is the Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht Co-Founders of CANVA.
Entries for the OzApp Awards were judged against the following criteria by a panel of independent judges:
- The product value proposition
- Team ability to execute
- Market need for the product
- Description or demonstration of a compelling user interface
- Path or potential path to revenue/monetisation
Also on offer is the Lateral prize valued at $20,000, and prizes from Amazon Web Services and Student Edge, both valued at $10,000 each.
