Australian-headquartered parking technology company Smart Parking Limited (ASX:SPZ) is continuing its expansion into New Zealand after receiving an order from Hamilton City.
Smart Parking will provide parking technology for approximately 945 parking bays in Hamilton City, reducing congestion through improved management of spaces and giving citizens an overall better parking experience.
Located in the North Island, Hamilton is the fourth most populous city in New Zealand. The adoption of Smart Parking technology comes amid Hamilton City Council’s new plans to revitalise the city’s CBD.
The Hamilton order comes on the heels of a recent contract with Wilson Parking New Zealand, which has chosen Smart Parking as the preferred supplier of sensor and bay-finding technology at nine new sites.
Smart Parking has already installed its technology in over 1,000 Wilson Parking sites in New Zealand and within the next twelve months, expects to roll out 3,000 more.
Smart Parking has a range of technologies to improve both on and off-street parking. In-Ground Vehicle Detention Sensors provide information to assist in the management of spaces and SmartApp enables drivers to located vacant spaces in real-time. For off-street parking, Overhead Guidance Indicators is a guidance system that identifies available spaces and then guides customers to them with large, clear digital signage and LED lighting.
These advances in parking are at the forefront of the emerging “smart cities” revolution that is taking place globally. As urbanisation continues to accelerate, city governments are turning to Internet of Things (IoT) technology as a way of dealing with increasingly busy and complex cities.
Group CEO of Smart Parking Paul Gillespie has attended and spoken at recent Smart Cities conferences in Hobart and Adelaide.
Commenting on the increased uptake of Smart Parking technology in New Zealand, Mr Gillespie said, “We are proud to announce that Hamilton City has awarded us a contract to install our technology. Parking is often one of the first smart city initiatives that cities consider because it deals with the problem of congestion, generates revenue and provides better service to end users.”
