Sonic Healthcare Limited’s (ASX: SHL) UK subsidiary, Health Services Laboratories (HSL), has signed a contract to provide pathology services for the National Health Service (NHS) Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System (ICS).
HSL is Sonic’s joint venture with the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Under the contract HSL will operate and modernise pathology services across three NHS trusts, including hospitals and 250 GP and community health practices. HSL will be responsible for delivering over 20 million tests per year for a population of 1.6 million people over the 15-year contract commencing in early CY 2025.
Working closely with the laboratory teams and clinical leads across the ICS, HSL will be investing in new and upgraded facilities (including a new hub laboratory) and IT systems to future proof testing services for patients.
Patients under the care of Princess Alexandra NHS Trust, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire NHS Trust, and all associated GP and community practices, will benefit from an improved more resilient service using state of the art facilities.
“We are delighted to be working with the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System and look forward to providing leading-edge pathology services to clinicians and patients at optimum quality and efficiency levels,” Sonic’s CEO, Dr Colin Goldschmidt, said.
“Our well-established Medical Leadership culture is ideally suited to the special needs of our NHS partners and I am confident that HSL, with the full support of Sonic’s global resources, will add value and serve to deliver significant benefits to all stakeholders into the future”.
