Technology provider Spectur (ASX:SP3) has taken a sizable bite out of new government contracts as the Western Australian State Government seeks to protect increasingly weary beachgoers through the launch of smart drumlines.
The Perth-based remote security provider has been awarded an $80,000 contract to deliver nine solar-powered, remote-operated Shark Warning Systems which interact directly with the drumlines.
The Shark Warning Systems are located at prominent surf spots around the South West and sound out loud warnings when a nearby drumline detects possible shark activity.
The instantaneous warning system is a major upgrade on current methods which can require local rangers to drive up to 45 minutes before being able to alert locals.
According to Spectur CEO Peter Holton, the recent State Government contract adds significant validation to the Shark Warning System.
Government contracts are an important aspect of our growing SaaS revenue streams.
“The government’s vote of confidence in the Spectur technology, incorporated into Shark Warning Systems will pave the way for more commercial opportunities,” he said.
Spectur recently added the Shark Warning System to its product mix, having previously developed a series of remote solar-powered security camera devices, such as the HD5 System which is used extensively by the Department of Planning Lands and Heritage WA.
The move into shark attack mitigation has delivering an immediate boon with the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and the City of Busselton conducting paid trials for shark alert systems.
Last week the Town of Cambridge also added to Spectur’s books, committing to implement the Shark Warning System at City Beach and Floreat, which are both popular metropolitan locations.
Support from Western Australian governments continues to be strong with the WA Minister for Water, Fisheries, Forestry, Innovation & ICT and Science Hon. Dave Kelly MLA championing the technology
“This shark alarm technology has been developed by a WA company and I’m pleased we are able to incorporate this local innovation as part of our trial,” the Minister said.
