Leading tech co-working space, Tank Stream Labs, has been selected as a key anchor tenant in Sydney’s new ground-breaking start-up hub NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro announced today.

The hub, which is funded by a $35million investment from the NSW Government (through Jobs for NSW), will be the first incubator of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

Tank Stream Labs, which has a co-working space in Bridge St Sydney which it will retain, has agreed to take two floors in the new start-up hub.

“Sydney is already internationally competitive in tech and this new hub will make the city a serious contender,” said Bradley Delamare, CEO of Tank Stream Labs.

“We’re delighted to be expanding into the Sydney start-up hub and we look forward to offering something quite different to the usual co-working space in our new home. We’re working hard on a number of exciting elements that we’ll be keeping under wraps until nearer the time.

“We’re also retaining our Bridge Street property so start-ups in our community will be able to enjoy access to both spaces.

“We’re pleased the NSW Government is investing in Sydney’s tech industry. This will help drive the growth of the Sydney ecosystem and the Australian economy.”

The new Sydney start-up hub will be located on York Street, opposite Wynyard Green – once the muster point for the Rum Rebellion and now home to disruptors of a different kind.

Other prominent tenants to take up residence in the 11 story start up hub include Stone and Chalk, the Studio and Fishburners. The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) will also call the co-working space home.

The Startup Hub is currently under construction, with doors due to open in late 2017.

“The NSW Government is creating a central destination for innovation where NSW start-ups can collaborate in a high-density cluster environment to grow, create more jobs and develop the products and services that could place Sydney in the world’s top innovation centres,” said Deputy Premier and Minister for Small Business, John Barilaro.

“We are leaving no stone unturned. In addition to the 2,500 residents, the incubator will welcome regional entrepreneurs from the wider start-up ecosystem through the Regional Landing Pad and community and events space,” he added.
