Consumers can virtually try on hundreds of designer glasses from their own home, as WA start-up SPEQS launches a unique augmented reality app for purchasing eyewear.
The Augmented Reality commerce (aCommerce) app has been created by one of Perth’s most experienced optometrists, Bjorn Russell, along with his fellow co-founder and businessman, Neven Botica.
Using patented algorithms, SPEQS allows users to try on a range of designer and prescription glasses – in real time – simply by holding their smartphone in front of their face.
“After spending the last 20 years managing optometry retail stores across Perth, I knew there had to be a better and more affordable way for consumers to get access to designer sunglasses and prescription glasses” SPEQS Co-Founder Bjorn Russell said.
“With the SPEQS model, customers can not only try on eyewear wherever they are and whenever they want. Customers will also save money by purchasing directly through the app, compared to an optometry retail store,” he said.
Taking the user from opening the app to trying on eyewear in under 10 seconds, the app delivers hyper-accurate placement of 3D eyewear on the user’s face, allowing a turn of 180 degrees, for the most realistic user experience possible.
Using True-Fit face modelling, the SPEQS app can also accurately measure pupillary distance and seg height, required for prescription glasses.
“We’ve worked with LA-based Image-Metrics on developing the augmented reality technology and we built the aCommerce platform here in WA,” SPEQS Lead Developer Erfan Imani said.
“They are the coders behind the successful L’Oreal Makeup Genius app, which have received over 35 million downloads, so we trusted their ability to create the best virtual experience possible for our users,” he said.
SPEQS has also secured exclusive rights to sell Hadid Eyewear by Alana Hadid in Australia.
The SPEQS app is available on iOS and Android, offering free shipping across Australia and free single vision lenses.
