Axis Communications, a global leader in network surveillance and security solutions, is celebrating 40 years of industry leadership and innovation, with a spotlight on its remarkable expansion across Oceania.
From its modest beginnings in 2002 as a one-person operation under Regional Director Wai King Wong, Axis has grown into a 55-member team in the region, supported by a partner network that has scaled from just 100 to over 1,000 partners.
This milestone reflects the company’s steadfast commitment to innovation, collaboration, and fostering enduring relationships in the security technology sector.
Revolutionising Security in Oceania
Axis Communications made waves in the mid-1990s by introducing the world’s first IP-based network camera, a game-changing innovation at a time when analogue systems dominated the security market. By the time Axis set up operations in Oceania in 2002, its IP-based solutions were already disrupting the market, helping the company achieve an impressive 40% year-on-year growth in its first decade.
“Our journey in Oceania has been one of tremendous growth and collaboration,” says Wai King Wong, Regional Director for Oceania. “From a single representative to a thriving team and a robust partner network, our success here is a testament to the strong relationships we’ve built and our commitment to delivering innovative solutions. As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue expanding our presence and supporting our partners in creating a smarter, safer world.”
Axis’s pioneering efforts were not only embraced by its partners but also set a new standard for the local security industry. Paul Crawford, Director at JD Security, one of Axis’s earliest collaborators, describes the partnership as transformative:
“JD Security's partnership with Axis has been part of our success. As they celebrate 40 years of innovation, we're honoured to have been along for the ride. We're thrilled to continue our partnership and are excited about what we see coming.”
Innovation: The Cornerstone of Axis’s Journey
Axis’s history is steeped in technological breakthroughs, beginning with its early work in print servers during the 1990s. The shift to video surveillance in 1996 with the launch of the IP Network Camera established the company as a market leader. Since then, Axis has continued to innovate, introducing Zipstream for efficient bandwidth use, ARTPEC system-on-chip technology, and, more recently, Axis Cloud Connect for scalable managed services.
The company’s focus on hybrid cloud solutions and AI-driven technologies signals its ambition to stay ahead of the curve. The launch of Axis Cloud Connect has opened new possibilities for businesses to harness the power of advanced cloud capabilities while maintaining secure, scalable surveillance solutions.
Looking Ahead
Axis’s roadmap for the future is just as ambitious as its past. The company plans to grow its Oceania team by 10% annually and continue expanding its partner network. The focus on integrating AI into its solutions and exploring applications in emerging markets like IP audio and AV systems underscores its forward-looking approach.
“We are proud of our journey and the significant impact we’ve had on the industry, but we’re just getting started,” says Wai King Wong. “Axis remains committed to evolving our technology and expanding our partnerships, especially as we continue to explore new applications of network cameras and IP audio in the AV market.”
A Legacy of Excellence
Over four decades, Axis has grown into a global powerhouse with 4,500 employees across 50 countries. The company’s solutions, which span video surveillance, access control, intercoms, and audio systems, are enhanced by intelligent analytics and world-class training, making Axis a trusted partner for security and business solutions.
As it celebrates this significant milestone, Axis Communications is not just reflecting on its past achievements but actively building its future—one that promises to deliver smarter, safer solutions for a rapidly evolving world.
